Come learn about safe paddling on our local waters. On Saturday May 16, Liquid Fusion Kayaking is hosting a Kayak Safety Clinic as a part of National Safe Boating Week. The day will start with an open house at Liquid Fusion Kayaking at Dolphin Isle on the Noyo River. From 11am to 12 pm, there will be a question and answer session on the deck. Come by and check out different types of kayaks and kayak equipment and bring your water safety questions.
From 12-12:30pm, Liquid Fusion Kayaking's Cate and Jeff will take to the water to demonstrate a variety of safety skills that paddlers can use on the water. Skills will be as basic as capsize prevention and evolve into how to right capsized kayaks and eskimo rolling.
At 12:45pm, everyone will be encouraged to don their life jackets as we participate in the READY, SET, WEAR IT!!! campaign to increase awareness that life jackets save lives.
For those that want to get wet, there will be an in-water skills clinic from 1-3pm. During this clinic. Liquid Fusion Kayaking's Cate and Jeff will be instructing paddlers on capsize prevention and capsize recovery skills for a variety of kayaks.
The open house and skills demonstration are free. A $20 donation is requested to participate in the afternoon on water session. All proceeds go to the Mendocino County Water Safety Coalition.
For the in-water portion, Participants must arrive by 12:30 to register. Participants must wear a wetsuit, life jacket, and closed toe shoes (wetsuit booties or tennis shoes). Participants are encouraged to bring their own kayaks; however, Liquid Fusion Kayaking will have kayaks available to use. For those who don't have a wetsuit, contact Subsurface Progression about wetsuit rentals.
